About The Company of Biologists

The Company of Biologists is a not-for-profit publishing organisation dedicated to supporting and inspiring the biological community. We are run by distinguished practising scientists. We exist to profit science, not shareholders. We inspire new thinking and support the worldwide community of biologists.

We publish five specialist peer-reviewed journals: Development, Journal of Cell Science, Journal of Experimental Biology, Disease Models & Mechanisms and Biology Open. Furthermore, we facilitate scientific meetings, provide travel grants for researchers and support research societies. We ensure the profits from the hard work of scientists inspire future scientific discovery and develop the next generation.

Our three community sites, the Node, preLights and FocalPlane, offer important networking opportunities and resources.

The Company of Biologists was created in 1925 by eminent zoologist George Parker Bidder III, to save the British Journal of Experimental Biology, which had been set up only a few years earlier. Since then, the Company had been gifted and has launched several other journals. We are proud to be celebrating our 100-year anniversary in 2025 with the wider biological community.

Why a conference?

The Company of Biologists thrives on building connections - our journals, scientific meetings and other activities offer opportunities for peers to meet, interact and discuss science. This is how we believe great ideas are born.

Our centenary is the perfect opportunity to bring together people from all areas of our activities - from the communities around our journals, the societies we support and the scientific meetings we host.

Register now

We are striving to deliver a conference that is inclusive - providing an opportunity to meet old friends and make new ones, build bridges and enrich your network, regardless of your background or career stage. We invite all attendees to explore the programme, which offers a unique opportunity to attend a diverse range of talks across the full scope of our journals, including developmental biology, cell biology, comparative animal physiology, and disease biology. Amongst the parallel sessions, there might be some that you would not normally attend at your annual society meeting, but that pique your interest and are now only in the next room. And every day will start with a plenary session, covering topics of importance to the whole biology community, with a focus on the future.

We would like to thank the organising committee, the journal teams and the BSCB, BSDB and SEB for their involvement and support in pulling together a varied and exciting programme. We can’t wait to see you all in Liverpool in March 2025.
